Also, happy fun times await me, for the G.R.E. (Graduate Record Exam) is fast approaching, and I'm currently busy studying.  If I pass, I will (probably) be accepted into graduate school! :D

If not... then I guess I'll have to try again later.

Wish me luck!

(AND GIVE ME LLAMAS LOL)

Edit: YAY LLAMA :D :D

Edit Again: BOOM.  GRE is DONE.  Didn't do too shabby, either.  Now I just wait to see if it was good enough to get into grad school.  :fingerscrossed:

Aah, I remember when I said I'd be updating my journal every month.  What foolish folly that was.

Well, I got that new rig, and 'tis a beauty.  It's what allowed me to create that CG Mewtwo to the left of this journal.

So far this summer, I've been trying to finish up some graphics for my independent study course, and it's taking just a leeeeetle longer than I expected.  After that, I'm knuckling down to creating a piece for my CG portfolio.

Today is my little brother's birthday!  He's turned 20, so that's awesome.  He's also earned his Eagle rank in Boy Scouts, which means we're now two for two, since I got my Eagle a while ago.  He's had, I guess you could call it "special dispensation" to have an extra 2 years added on to the deadline for getting Eagle, on account of him being autistic, but I never had any doubt he could do it.  He's got even more merit badges than I did (and by no small margin, either!), though he did have more time to get them... <_<

In other birthday-related developments, I'll be turning 23 in four days.  Whoop-dee-friggin'-doo, right?  To be honest, since turning 21, I'm not even sure it's worth it to celebrate birthdays anymore.  When people ask me "Age?" I actually have to think for a second before I remember.  Hmm, this may be more a sign of catastrophic memory loss than just simply not caring.

I'm still gaming, of course, but I think I've pretty much dropped World of Warcraft for good (hah, where have I heard that before?)  Of course, as soon as I'm done with my independent study work this summer, I plan on jumping into Lord of the Rings Online, which looks like it has a MUCH better community at first glance.  Of course, the real thing I'm looking forward to is the recently announced Final Fantasy XIV (14!), which is going to be Square-Enix's second foray into the world of Massively Multiplayer Online RPGs.  I pray to the almighty God that they've learned from their past mistakes with FFXI.

Well, I've run out of things to babble about. :blahblah:

Well, it's been quite a while since I updated this thing.  I remember wanting to have an update every 1st of the month... so much for that!

I hope everybody had a wonderful Christmas.  Family, friends and hot cider; definitely the best time of the year.  I was unfortunate enough this year to miss my family Christmas party because of a Saturday afternoon Physics exam, so that was a pretty serious bummer.  Christmas didn't feel quite complete without it.  Ah well, we're having a follow-up party sometime in January, so at least I'll get to see everyone eventually!

As for gifts, I did pretty well, if I do say so myself.  Got the Wii version of "Sonic Unleashed" (which actually isn't nearly as bad as I've been hearing), an iPod Nano engraved with my mock title ("The Miguel"), and a freakin' sweet 22" widescreen monitor.  Now I can actually SEE WHAT I'M DOING when I'm working in Maya and Photoshop!  It's a shame that my wimpy little laptop seems to have trouble handling it, though.  Thankfully, I think I've just about got enough dough saved up to get myself a middle-to-high range desktop computer. :excited:

So, anyway, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and that you have a Happy New Year!

Well, today is the day my driving license expires!  Oh, and it's also my birthday. ;)

So yeah.  I renewed my license, replacing the horrible picture of me with an even WORSE one, and also registered to vote (finally).  Pretty boring day so far.  We're going out to eat later tonight, but that's about it - we went to see WALL-E for my little brother's birthday four days ago and no other movies out at the moment look like they're worth the price of the ticket.

Oh, speaking of which, it's plug time: if you haven't seen WALL-E, please do so at your earliest convenience.  It's an excellent flick.  Plenty of Pixar-goodness; amazing artistry, great humor, engaging story and a surprising moral.  When the credits began to roll, the audience was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.  Why, you ask?  They were thinking.

Anyway, by far my greatest surprise today is the totally awesome gift from :icontrauma-advocate:: the first installment of a short-story revolving around my flagship character, Zev!  Please, go and read it! trauma-advocate.deviantart.com…

(And yeah, I'm having the same trouble with the mood icons as you, TA... not sure what the deal is.  I'm not that tired! =P)

Why hello there!  It's been a while since I updated my journal... and now that I'm finally updating it, I don't have anything to update it with!  Go figure, eh?

I've been extremely busy with my classes this semester, mostly the computer graphics courses, which require me to sketch and work in photoshop and all sorts of stuff like that.  I may be posting some of that stuff at some point, but it's not all that great, really.

I CANNOT WAIT for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.  I am so stoked for that game.  Sadly, I didn't pre-order it, so I'll probably have to wait a while before I can play it.  Not that big a deal, really.  I'll get my hands on a copy eventually.

Oh, and I started playing World of Warcraft again.  Laugh if you will, but it really is like crack.  I took a two month break, and then the pull was too great to resist, and I returned.  That, apart from my classes, is what's draining most of my time, I'm ashamed to say.  Ah well.

Well, I was right: being done with classes and exams - coupled with going home for Christmas - has livened my spirits considerably.  Granted, I still find things to worry about and feel guilty about... but I'm Catholic, so that's normal. =P

Since this is my first Christmas after turning 21, what else could I get my dad but a bunch of assorted beers?  My bro's getting a Wii, and my mom... well, I'm not really sure what she's getting - she's one of those that are kinda hard to buy for, you see.  I didn't really ask for much this Christmas; just a coat and some new clothes to replace the ones that are falling apart.

Well, I'm sure anybody who's actually reading this doesn't give two hoots what I'm giving/getting for Christmas, so I'll stop there.

Now that I've decided to take an official break from World of Warcraft, I find myself with a lot more time to do other things, such as console video-games!  ...Oh, and art as well. :3  Expect some more stuff from me before too long!

Well, I'll go ahead and wrap this up:

I wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Life took a severe plunge this past month. I won't bore you with the details.

Haven't been doing a lot of art lately; just random sketches.  I'm in quite a slump.  The end of the semester draws near, as do exams and final projects... but the sustaining light of the Holidays lays beyond them.  I think my spirits will lift once I'm done with exams, but until then my tank is only half full.

This gloomy-spell isn't anything significant - I typically get like this around the end of the semester.  It's just the dark and savage weight of exams and final projects that stamps out my normal cheeriness.  I'll be right as rain (or, hopefully, snow) when I get home and get to properly enjoy the Christmas season.

Until then!

Well, another month has passed, and I find myself still embroiled in World of Warcraft.  What's even worse is that three of my old buddies from high-school are on there as well, making the desire to keep playing all the stronger.

I know that I said I'd have LIEK A HYUGE LOAD O' SKETCHES YO, but for some reason, I withheld most of them for various reasons.  These reasons were in fact so various that I cannot currently remember what they were.  Anyway, to make up for that, I'm going to indiscriminately rip every page out of the last two sketchbooks I've filled, scan them all, and then dump them into a single picture - a tradition known as "SPAM DUMP" or something like that...

I've got a few pictures to work on, but school has been taking a bit more of my time.  Not much, just more than it did earlier in the semester.  I have to make an animatic for one of my classes, so I'll be uploadin' that sucker once it's finished (probably in December.)

Oh, also, if you have a PlayStation2 or better, go out and buy ODIN SPHERE.  I cannot even express how amazing the art in this game is.  It's totally 2D, but the sprites are ginormous, and look more like photoshop paintings than character sprites.  It lags a bit on my PS2 when I get into really hectic battles, but it actually helps me survive.  It's a pretty hard game, but I definitely recommend it for those who enjoy sidescrolling battlers and don't mind a challenge.  So yeah, if you're lucky enough to come across this game in your travels, be sure to pick it up - $40 for this gem is an amazing deal!

Well, that's all I've got to say for now!  Thank God, eh?

Hey everybody, it's my first-year anniversary!!  Jubilation!  Beer and cheese for everyone!

This also marks the first (well, technically second) of my first-of-the-month journal entries.  The first day of every month, I hope to be able to update the journal.  Obviously, I'll update it on other days if things in my life ever become significant enough to warrant it, which is doubtful.

October is one of my favorite months, next to December.  The obvious reason why October is so awesome is because it's freakin' Halloween.  'Nuff said.

The recent weeks have seen a revitalization of my gaming spirit, as I have renewed my World of Warcraft account and purchased the new Sonic Rush game and Metroid Prime 3.  I'm just about to burst at the seams for Smash Bros. Brawl, too. :3  I've been considering buying a Xbox360 and a copy of Halo 3, but I think I might hold off for a while.
Metroid Prime 3 is indeed as good as everyone has been saying it is.  Even with last-gen graphics it looks beautiful, and the controls are incredible.  It really immerses you in the game.  Sonic Rush Adventure is shaping up to be pretty enjoyable as well, though I'm a little frustrated with having to sail between levels.  I thought everybody had learned their lesson from Wind Waker, but apparently not.  I'm certainly happy that this one is harder than the original Sonic Rush.
I just... I dunno, I really hope that they (that is, Sonic Team) make a side-scrolling Sonic game for the next-gen consoles.  I mean, if they made it like Odin Sphere with enormous 2D sprites and detailed artwork, not to mention some minimalistic RPG elements, I think they'd have a blockbuster.  I like the idea of injecting RPG elements into the Sonic formula, but the central element has to be the speed.  That's just what makes Sonic fun.  I get the distinct feeling that Sonic Team is using trial and error in their games; making a Sonic game with some new mechanic in it every time in the hopes that one of them will hit the mark and revitalize the series.  But y'know, they're getting to the point where they're really stretching it.  People are getting used to the idea that Sonic games suck.

Anyway, enough about games.  The first half of next week is October Break, so I'll finally be able to scan in some artwork that's been piling up.  I hopefully won't have this problem after Christmas, providing I get the scanner I asked for.
These scans will include a few character sketches I did for :iconmavrickindigo:, two pages full of me practicing faces in a style different than I'm used to, several pictures of pokemon(!), a tattoo I'm doing for a friend, a couple other character drawings, a picture of Tails drawn in an art-style from another game (won't tell you which!), and even a sketch of everyone's favorite holistic private detective, Dirk Gently!

No word yet on that comic that I said I'd do.  It's in there somewhere, buried under all the "I can't draw backgrounds" and the "I'll start on it tomorrow" and the "maybe I'll play some games instead".  It's a vicious cycle, I tell you.  I will do at least one page, though, just to see if I can do it.  If it turns out to be reasonably enjoyable and fulfilling, I may continue.

In other news, the Dalai Lama is coming to speak in front of my college later this month, which is absolutely awesome.  Hopefully I'll be able to get my grubby hands on some tickets for me and my Dad.  I'm not a Buddhist, but that doesn't mean I don't respect his opinions.  Few people are as peaceful and serene as he.

I nearly died of joy a week ago when we started making articulated models in my graphics class.  Sure, it was pretty simple, but being able to move a little lever that turns a wheel in 3D space was just too cool.

Art endeavors this month include a graphics packet for :iconmythguy:, and a tattoo for a friend of mine.  I'm really going to try and go all-out as far as the line-art goes with this tattoo, 'cause, y'know, it's going to be cut into his skin, so it better look nice!  I've been working on it off and on for the past... hoooo, I don't even want to think.  Procrastination at its best (or worst?)

I've also started experimenting with a slightly more "American" style for my character's faces, but I'm not sure whether I like it better than my typical pseudo-anime style.  It's not that I don't think that anime is art (an allegation that I've always found absurd - of course it's art, you silly people!) it's just that I feel that since I (alas) am an American, I ought to have a more American-esque style.  I mean, since I gripe about how American cartoons have simply turned into cheap knock-offs of anime, I should at least try not to be a hypocrite.  Maybe I'll just say "to hell with it" and start working on drawing characters that are actually realistic.  :O  Now there's a novel idea!

So, enough of my mindless banter!  You have better things to do!  Until next month,

Over and out.

Ah, I must say, life is good.  Finally doing what I went to college to do in the first place!  I am absolutely LOVING my geometric modeling class - once I finally understood how to use the modeling program, I wanted to hug it.  I've been visiting the computer lab in my building just to play with it.  Can't wait until I start designing characters and environments in future classes!
On the subject of classes, Western Religions looks like it'll prove interesting.  It's interesting looking at the questions of life, morality, creation, and God from three different perspectives, since we're simultaneously studying Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
Ah yes, and my living space is better than I could have possibly imagined.  I mean, the room has wall-to-wall carpet!  How cool is that?  The building is air-conditioned, and I've got my own personal bathroom and shower, so I'm quite happy.

In other news, I've finally gotten around to scanning in some sketches.  I've yet to find a scanner on campus (though I'm sure I'll find one if I actually look) so I had to wait until I came home for Labor day weekend to scan all the stuff in.

So yeah, in general I'm more content than I have been in a long time.

The only thing that I'm not terribly pleased about is having to read Dan Brown's Deception Point for one of my classes.  I'm not terribly fond of Brown - not because of the whole Jesus thing, but because even though he might be a great writer, he's a shitty researcher.  So much of what he poses as fact is utterly false, it's almost laughable - and not just in Da Vinci Code.  Brown, if you're going to write fiction, that's great, but don't put "so-and-so obscure facts are true" at the beginning of your books to mislead dim-witted people.  To everybody else: if you have an argument against this, stop while you're ahead, because I couldn't possibly care less. ;)  We'll see how my opinion of Brown holds up after I finish Deception Point.

Finally, I would just like to say that I'm about to explode with anticipation for all the awesome games coming out.  Smash Bros. Brawl, MGS4, Halo 3, StarCraft II, Mario Galaxy, Metriod Corruption, Sonic Rush Adventure... the list goes on and on.  It's a shame that I've only got a Wii - it'll be a while before I can afford a PS3. :(  StarCraft II probably isn't coming out any time soon, either. :(x2

Well, guess what?

...Go on, guess.

DING!  That is correct!  You've wasted another perfectly good chunk of your life reading my pointless journal!  Have a cookie for your trouble!

Pretty brief entry, this time!

Well, this is the last night I spend at home for a while.  I'll be heading out to college again tomorrow morning.  I have to say that I'm pretty stressed about it.  I don't know how soon I'll be able to get the internet working again, either. :( Anyway, it'll be interesting living by myself with all the free time I'll have (only one class on Thursday and Friday).  Maybe I'll start doing something constructive like, I dunno, starting on my comic or perhaps some flash videos.  That, or I'll just quietly go bonkers alone in my room.

Ah yes, and I just finished reading the seventh and final Harry Potter book.  It was great, but I have mixed feelings about it.  On the one hand it was an awesome book with a great ending, but on the other hand SO many of my favorite characters died, including my two most favorite, who I won't name just in case the solitary soul - whoever that may be - that reads this journal hasn't yet read the book.

Ah well, told you it was a short one today!

It's that time of year again, when the interminable depression of having to return to school sets in, casting a pall over all things.  Of course, I try to remember how much I have been looking forward to this particular semester - I finally get to start working in computer graphics!  That much, at least, is good news.  So, I guess I'm feeling pretty ambivalent right now.

In art-related news, I am done with the line art of Snowguy's picture, and let me tell you, it's got some nice detail in it.  For me, at least.  It's gonna be a b!tch to color it and the background, though.  As I suspected, I probably won't have it done before I go back to school, despite my promises.  I really hate doing that, but whenever I set a deadline for myself, I invariably miss it.  Gonna have to work on that if I plan to be anything more than J.A.F.A (Just Another F***ing Artist).

In gaming news, I am becoming increasingly restless for Super Smash Bros. Brawl to arrive.  I've still got my fingers crossed for Sonic and Mega Man to be included in the roster, but I should know better than to get my hopes up.  Speaking of Sonic, I just ordered myself a Tails keychain!  WOOO.  Tails is the shiz, as they say.
I am also addicted (or rather, readdicted) to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.  Specifically Oblivion's expansion, the Shivering Isles, which is just plain awesome.  A little unsettling, what with the whole island basically being the earthly representation of a man's insanity, but it finally returned a sense of purpose to the game that I was lacking for almost a full year.

I'm anxious to finish all these request pictures so that I can finally get to making those comics!  Not to mention all the other stuff I've been wanting to do.  Hah, I say that as if request pictures are taking up all my time.  So sad...

Well, you've done it again!  You've wasted a perfectly good chunk of your life reading this pointless journal update!

Well, I'm finally finished with Trauma-Advocate:icontrauma-advocate:'s picture, after at least four months.  Next up is a request for a man by the alias of "Snowguy" over on RPHaven.org.  That picture, I have promised, will be done before the end of the summer.  Sooner, if I can help it.
Then, once I'm done with that, I have a request to do some graphics for a website, and then I'll be done.  I'll actually be able to get started on more than a few projects that have been hanging in the rafters since I started taking requests.  After I'm done with what remains of this batch, I think I'll just stop taking requests altogether - I'll have to if I ever actually want to get started on those comics.

In other news, a law has been passed stating that anybody who hasn't seen Transformers must go and see it now, or else face the death penalty.  Seriously, it's amazing.  It's a little funny hearing Shia LaBeouf (or whatever the hell his name is) talking about how "Megatron wants the spark cube to like take over teh UNIVARSE!!" to government agents - but hey, it's a movie about giant robots from outer space that transform into vehicles half their actual size - it's going to be a little tongue-in-cheek.

Other than that, life rolls on, as the title of this journal entry would suggest.  I've recently decided to buy some games for the Wii Virtual Console - they are the original NES Legend of Zelda and Zelda II, also for NES.  Legend of Zelda has me completely hooked.  It's amazing that a game that's almost as old as I am can still be so entertaining.  Zelda II, on the other hand, is such a far cry from all the other Zeldas that it has me not really liking it that much.  Still, I have to beat it - it is one of my goals to beat every Zelda game, except maybe for those cruddy Phillips CD-I ones.

Hey, guess what?  You've wasted another perfectly good few minutes reading my completely pointless journal update!

Well, I'm still working on :icontrauma-advocate:'s request picture.  It's been... oh God, I don't even want to know how long it's been since he made the request.  I feel bad. :(
I AM starting to make progress again, however.  I've got pretty much all of the line art done, so now I just have to color it... which sounds so simple in words.

My newly purchased (and, subsequently, damaged) Nintendo DS Lite is the primary culprit behind my lack of progress on :icontrauma-advocate:'s picture.  I'm rapidly running out of steam on Sonic Rush and Super Mario 64 DS, but Animal Farm remains a sad, unhealthy obsession, and I still haven't beaten Final Fantasy III.  And, oh alas and alack, I dropped an old picture-frame on the poor DS, and a nice chunk of the finish was chipped off of the front of it.  Thankfully, it was closed, and the screens and internal touchy-bits were unharmed, but I was still unreasonably pissed about it.

In other news, I have indeed been accepted into CGT (Computer Graphics Technology) so I am finally about to start down the road that I originally intended at the start of college.

Additionally, I am presently job-hunting.  Never had a job in my life, and I'm almost 21 years old.  Sad, I know.  What's even worse is that it looks like the only places I can get hired at are fast food joints.  I'm sure it could be worse, but not by much - unless I was, y'know, a coal miner or something...

Soooo, um, I can't think of anything else to say, really.  I'm going to be 21 at the start of the next month, so that'll be neat... for about 10 minutes before I realize that nothing is any different, except that it'll legal for me to drink, which I don't want to do anyway.  I'm so uninteresting.

See, now I feel like a jackass for whining so much about my grades.  Apparently, my professor in one class decided that one point was enough to put me in the B range.  I was also able to pull an A out of one of my classes - so that's one C, three Bs, and an A, which bumps my GPA up to 2.57 - juuuuuust over the cutoff.  I'm now officially eligible to be accepted into CGT!  I can't express how happy I am.  Now, I just have to hope that they take me in - 2.5 only makes me eligible, so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.  Pray for me!

I tell ya, I should've expected this.  I hopped over to my college website to see my grades just a minute ago.  The grades for three of my classes are still out, but the two classes that did have grades in were not encouraging.  Get this: in one class, I was 1 - count 'em, ONE - point away from getting a B.  In the other, I was TWO points away from getting a B, and that's with the curve.

Not only does this mean that I'm probably going to have to spend yet another meaningless semester taking pointless classes to get my GPA up high enough to be considered for entry into Computer Graphics Technology.  Unless one of my other classes is an A and the other two B's at the very least, I'm doomed to continue the currently 2-year-long cycle.  I feel cheated.  I was somewhat resigned to not being able to get in this semester, but I was so fucking CLOSE it makes me want to vomit.  I mean, ONE POINT!!  The story of my life - not sure if I've already said this in a previous journal, but I was kicked out of National Honors Society because my GPA fell .1 below the cutoff.  Talk about being denied.

But, I shouldn't make myself the victim in all this.  If I had worked harder, I wouldn't have had to worry about that.  The thing is, in one class I thought I was doing pretty well, while the other (which only takes 3 grades over the entire semester) was flushed because I screwed up on one exam.  In the first class, I never got below a B on any single exam after the grade was curved, and I still come out with a C.  Is there no justice?

Well, folks, I survived another semester!  Sort of.  Unless by some miracle from God I am able to somehow scrape an A out of one of my classes, I am doomed to continue the cycle of trying to bring my GPA up high enough to get into the Computer Graphics Technology school.  Cynicism is at an all-time high.

I can finally taste sweet freedom, but only for a fleeting month before I must start work.  That is, of course, assuming I'm hired.  If not, then it's to the poor-house for me!  ...Well, not really, I just get to bum around home and be generally useless while using mowing my lawn as my primary source of income.  I'm 20-freakin' years old, and I still don't have a job.  Honestly, I'm such a waste of space!  At least I don't do drugs!

BUT TO BETTER THINGS!  I'm seeing Spidey 3 tomorrow afternoon (assuming I can get tickets) and Shrek 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean both come out later this month!  JUBILATION!!  I've yet to see the new Turtles movie, though.  I'm a little turned off by the use of CG instead of sticking with live-action - I mean, it is a continuation of that story, isn't it?  Haven't seen Ghost Rider either, because Nicolas Cage, though he's a great actor, just doesn't strike me as the action-hero type.  He's too sedate.

Also, with no school to serve as an excuse for not doing my request drawings, I might just pick up the pace in the art department!

No word yet on those comics... (heh)

For a while now, I've been wanting to do a Flash cartoon series chronicling the adventures of my little fox-character, Zev.  However, due to a wretched lack of enthusiasm in all things and my pervasive procrastination, it will probably never be.

HOWEVAH'.  I was reading various comics by various deviants today, and after reading upwards of 120 pages, it suddenly dawned on me:

I can make comics!

Yes!  I can actually do that!  It won't require weeks of work to animate a measly 30 seconds!  I can be a procrastinator in a new, epic, completely inexcusable way!

So, now that I've dropped this juicy morsel on the unsuspecting populace (not really,) I suppose I have to act on it, eh?  Once I'm done with the various request pictures I am/will be working on, I'll see if I can't start up a little web-comic/manga thingie!

If I still think this is a good idea when I wake up tomorrow morning, I might actually follow it through!

WEEEEEEEE!  Finally, a chance to really relax!  I haven't been home since Christmas, so life is good at the moment.  Now that I don't have my studies looming over me (if you don't count all those exams directly after getting back from break) I can actually get some of my artwork done!  I've been working on a single picture for the past 2 months, and I'm so ready to move on to something else!  The problem... well, I'm going to great lengths to pump in lots of detail into the line-art, so I haven't even gotten to coloring yet!  o_0

In other news, I am 5th-generation Irish, which (as far as I'm concerned) is enough to make me entirely Irish, and damn proud of it.  So, I'm always excited when St. Patty's Day rolls around.  What fun!  I shall dress up in green and go around saying things like "Ireland pwns ur face" and "Irish Power."  Well, maybe not that second part, but you can bet your last baseball card that I'll be wearing green.  Woo-hoo, check out my team spirit. -_-  I'm so ashamed to be an American all the time, I've got to cling to my Irish heritage!
The sad thing is... I've never actually been to Ireland.  Tragic, I know.  I wonder if they offer any study-abroad programs?

Well, in just a few hours I'll be taking my Philosophy 330 (Eastern Religions) exam.  I hope I'm ready for it...  Twenty multiple-choice questions plus a 10-point essay.  Loverly.  The questions shouldn't be too bad - it's the essay I'm worried about.  Ah well, we'll see what happens.  So, I'm off to do some last-minute cramming!
